HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam’s shrimp industry expects to increase exports this year end because of a rise in demand, according to the Việt Nam Association Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).
Any fishing boats in contravention of illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing rules given by Vietnam will be strictly handled.
With positive signs from growing market demand and opportunities benefiting from the Europe-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) that comes into effect on Aug 01, Vietnam sets a target of bringing in $8.6 billion from seafood exports this year.
Vasep, the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers, reports that in the first quarter of 2020, the outbreak of Covid-19 broke out strongly around the world, especially the countries that are importing a lot of Vietnamese seafood, resulting in a 10% decrease in the country’s seafood export results compared to the previous year. The same period of 2019 reached US $ 1.62 billion.
VASEP, the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers, reports that among the main export seafood products of Vietnam, while exports of pangasius, tuna and seafood decreased, Vietnam’s shrimp exports in the first quarter of this year were still positive.
According to Dong Thap provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural, the province has 2,450 hectares of pangasius ponds in value chain, 20 companies involved in pangasius farming for export (nearly 970 hectares) and 1,564 facilities where fries are produced and supplied to the market.
In the first 9 months of 2019, the total export value of pangasius to the German market reached US $ 22.9 million, up 32.5% over the same period in 2018. In September 2019 alone, pangasius export value to this market reached US $ 1.66 million, up 23.6% over the same period in 2018.
By the first half of October 2019, the total value of pangasius exports to Malaysia reached US$ 34.18 million, up 23.6% over the same period in 2018. Currently, Malaysia is the second largest pangasius importer of Vietnamese exporters in ASEAN.
Vietnamese cephalopod exports to the US in the first 9 months of 2019 reached US$11.4 million, up 63.7% over the same period in 2018. As of September 2019, Vietnamese exports of this item to the US grew continously.
